This song came with the music first, then the questions in verse 1 came after that. As I was writing it, I was reminded a lot of a friend who was going through a really tough time - then when we were recording it, I was reminded of another dear friend of ours. Dedicated to Melissa and Michal...

Musically, I guess it's a bit of Mark Knopfler.

"Speak" came as sort of an afterthought, written when the album was almost finished. I first thought about making it a short bonus track, but then decided to add it as a tag to the end of "Wherever You Lead."
