Kiss You Goodbye

about

Barbie: Before we moved to Japan in ‘03, I worked at an Italian restaurant in Alabama. My manager’s mother was fighting cancer at that time. For her birthday, he hired Nori and I to sing for her in the hospital. We only chose three songs to sing, and one of those songs just happened to be one of her favorites! (I think it was “I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever” by Delirious) Such a God thing! She went on to be with Jesus a few months later, and Nori and I had the honor of singing at her funeral.

Death really takes us by surprise, even if it’s long and drawn out. It sure is good to know where our loved ones are when they pass. (In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”) Get to know Jesus!

Influences, hmmm... It’s kind of hard for me to separate myself from the songs to figure out who it sounds like. I listened to 10,000 Maniacs a lot in college, so maybe this is a Natalie Merchant influence? Or maybe some of those awesome folk bands from the 60’s and 70’s like Simon and Garfunkle, or Carly Simon. Nori adds all of the cool “licks” and instruments behind me. Love that Rickenbacker 12 string!g/BMI.

lyrics

KISS YOU GOODBYE
(Barbie Kelley, Nori Kelley & Liz Kelley)

Here I sit by your side, holding your hand, looking into your eyes
Wondering what’s meant to be, letting you go, out of my life
Where will I be without you?
You’ll be all right, yeah, cause God will see you through

So I’m gonna kiss you goodbye, And I’m gonna let you go
Even though it’s not what I had planned
Well, I’m gonna miss you so, but it’s all right for you to let go
‘Cause I know Who will hold you on the other side
So I’ll kiss you goodbye

I remember the times you held me close when I would cry
You held my hand as I walked, you taught me to run
You taught me to fly
Where will I be without you?
I’ll be all right, yeah, cause God will see me through, too

Where will I be without you?
I’ll be all right, yeah, cause God will see me through.... too
