While living in Japan, I was always thinking about the various American foods that I couldn't eat there, especially from specific restaurants in the states. We were very blessed to have had friends in the U.S. military who were stationed at Yokosuka Navy Base, which was somewhat nearby. On occasion, we were invited on base as their guests where we (I) could stuff ourselves with Taco Bell, Long John Silver's, A & W, Popeye's, and other healthy choices.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Japanese food, having been raised on rice & seaweed (nori) since I was a baby. I spent 5 wonderful years of my childhood in Japan as the son of a career Air Force man & a precious woman from the Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu, where I was born as well. I've spent another 5 years there as an adult, living in the culture as a missionary. The taste of Japanese food is unique - unlike any other in the world as far as I know...it's just not American food.

Having lost some weight in Japan due to healthier eating habits, I started thinking about what would happen when we return to the U.S. - the fried foods, the carbs, the PIES! Then I stared thinking about the state of America in general - how the Land of Plenty has turned into the Land of Excess - and viola, out came this song.

If you happen to be overweight, please don't take this personally...this song is about me on one level, and about this great land of ours on another. =)
